NEW VIDEO: Royal Caribbean’s 5th Episode of “Making an Icon” Series Highlights Surfside!

Excitement is building in anticipation of the ultimate family vacation Royal Caribbean has been releasing episodes in it Making an Icon series. Each episode features a new neighborhood or milestone of Icon’s construction, that is currently underway in the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland.

Surfside will be the first of Royal Caribbean’s neighborhood concepts to focus solely on young families offering multiple water features, eateries, and fun for the whole family. Families can eat, drink, relax, and splash the day away without having to head off to different parts of the ship.

While Surfside is geared primarily towards young families with kids 6 and under, the teen club and arcade will be close by.

We can’t wait to sail this new ship! I’ll be staying in a Surfside Balcony with my husband and two girls (7 and 4) for the inaugural but I’m MOST excited for my sneak peek when I’ll head to Turku, Finland next month to meet Icon in the shipyard where she is being built! Be sure to follow along!

WATER WATER EVERYWHERE

In Moms at Seas’ numerous opportunities to hear leadership discuss their plans for ICON, President and CEO Michael Bayley consistently emphasized ICON’s integration of water as their response to guest feedback that they want to feel more connected with the water.

Icon will deliver on that request.

Surfside alone will offer three water areas:

  • Splashaway Bay for potty trained age kiddos (no word yet on any height requirements for slides or other features)

  • Baby Bay for our littlest cruisers still in diapers

  • Water’s Edge Pool enjoying that coveted and sought after aft view

The three zones offers separate yet integrated fun for the family.

FOOD AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

When kids get hungry, time is of the essence (us too, we get it).

Surfside will bring new concepts in food and beverage to Icon such as:

  • Surfside Eatery – this will be similar in offerings to the Windjammer only available in Surfside so you don’t have to leave or separate the family

  • The Lemon Post – A family bar concept with cocktails for parents and mocktails for kiddos!

  • Pier 7 – this will be a specialty restaurant offering Surfside bites like Mango Shrimp Tostadas and Surf and Turf options. There will be an additional charge for this venue.

CLASSICS REIMAGINED

While Oasis Class ships offer the Boardwalk, Surfside will draw on the beach side culture we all love, but it’s own whimsical and playful twists.. The classic carousel will be a prominent feature in Surfside but will have a new theme with colorful sea creatures to hitch a ride on!
