Watch as construction on Royal Caribbean International’s upcoming ship, Utopia of the Seas, reaches the first major milestone, the Keel Laying Ceremony. This longstanding maritime tradition marks the first step of physical construction of the vessel, which will take about 30 months.

The team building Utopia places newly minted coins onto the ships’ first 948 ton steel block.

The coins are said to bring luck during construction and to the Captain and crew when it sets sail.

Utopia of the Seas will also mark an advancement into the next generation and future of clean energy cruising.
