Guests notice excursions to the popular family friendly Playa Mia Grand Beach Park becoming unavailable.
Royal Caribbean announced in March of 2024 that the Royal Beach Club Cozumel, the next ultimate beach day experience in the Royal Beach Club Collection, can be expected to open some time in 2026 along the western coast of Cozumel.
The Royal Beach Club Collection will complement all that Cozumel has to offer with a combination of experiences for everyone, from striking beaches and pools to swim-up bars, a variety of dining spots like a restaurant, bar and lounge as well as a street market; and hands-on experiences such as tequila tastings and cooking classes.

Royal Beach Club Cozumel will welcome vacationers to their ultimate beach day in Mexico, complete with Royal Caribbean’s signature attention to detail across the experience, service and design.
Everyone can make memories with a combination of experiences that span from kicking back to adventuring across:
- swim-up bars
- dedicated pools for relaxation enthusiasts and families
- private cabanas
- snorkeling
- kayaking, and more.
And for a taste of Mexico and quintessential beach day favorites, coming to the table will be a variety of dining spots like a restaurant, bar and lounge with views – and flavors – for days and a street market as well as hands-on experiences like tequila tastings and cooking classes.

Now for the fun fan speculation you’re here for!
None of the following is confirmed, but we all love being Royal Caribbean sleuths in anticipation of our future adventures with the brand. So here’s the tea!
As an update- the tea leaves all point to, “it is certain!” The more information that is shared, the more this becomes the obvious answer!
Construction and Maintenance Plans at Playa Mia: In February, guests were notified to expect maintenance work on the pergola area near the Buccaneers Bay Kid’s Activity Area, noting that the kids play area would remain fully operational during the repairs.
For all calls to Playa Mia starting May 1, 2025, the beach location will be changed to Isla Mia. There will be access to the beach, an onsite restaurant, and a floating park. During this time, the kid’s area and waterslides will NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE!
Members of Royal Caribbean Moms at Sea, our popular Facebook community, have noticed that the Playa Mia excursion is not available beginning in May 2025.
Royal Caribbean said in their press release in March 2024 that Cozumel marks the spot for the new Royal Beach Club Cozumel- but does Playa Mia, truly, mark the spot of the future private destination?
Could a ground breaking be in our not so distant future?
A Royal Caribbean Moms at Sea Facebook group member was told by Playa Mia staff last week (March 2025) that the Playa Mia property would be the site of the future beach club. “We were there last week and a staff member told me this. He said Royal Caribbean was starting construction in June and they were all hoping to approach them about hiring them. According to him the current Playa Mia is moving down the beach,” reported Christy Whitney-Mousa. Other members then commented they were told the same information by Playa Mia staff in recent visits.
This Facebook post from Esquema Cozumel, seems to indicate that may be the case and that the beach club may not only take up the land of the current Playa Mia Grand Beach Park, but could potentially expand outside its borders as well.

In true Bayley fashion, it seems Royal Caribbean’s President and CEO, and Chief Champagnator, may have indicated this could be the case.
“During a controlled attendance event, Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean, announced that the ship will have a beach club in Cozumel, which would be being built where the Playa Mía club is currently located, and its construction would take two years, to enter into running for 2026.”
The article mentions the involvement of the Molina family, owners of Playa Mia, “The family of entrepreneurs of Yucatec origin, Molina, are the owners of the Playa Mía club, where this new beach club will be built.”
And then reaffirms the location and potential expansion beyond the current footprint of Playa Mia, “At the moment it was mentioned that the amount of investment that will be applied to this project is $75 million, although it was not reported whether the work will only occupy the area known as Playa Mia or expand the construction area.”
