Accupressure wrist bands for motion sickness are one of the more common items we see recommended in the Moms at Sea Community. Not everyone will experience motion sickness, but acupressure bands can provide fast, drug free, and effective nausea relief.
“Acupressure on the P6 (Nei-Kuan) point, located between the two central tendons below the wrist, has been used for thousands of years, by millions of people, as a natural remedy for nausea and vomiting due to motion, pregnancy, cancer, and other causes . Multiple randomized scientific studies controlling for the placebo effect support its effectiveness. Blisslets delivers pressure to the P6 point by means of a specially designed bead embedded in a comfortable elastic. “ – From Blisslets
While I personally am not highly susceptible to seasickness (maybe a little more after a few Kraken Coladas!)- when I saw the other benefits acupressure relief bands could provide, I wanted to give them a try. Did you know they can also provide natural relief from insomnia, palpitations, anxiety, stress, and headaches. So, yeah, sign me up.
One problem.
Have you seen most acupressure bands? They’re not exactly the most fashionable and they practically scream, “I’m wearing an anti-nausea band!” Many of them look like you’re straight out of a Sweatin’ to the Oldies video! Or getting ready to whip out your old Get in Shape Girl! from the 80’s! Ok, now everyone knows i’m old.
But there are times in life that we may want to be a little more discreet and not let everyone know we feel like we’re about to lose our lunch.
EXAMPLE: Did you know that the same mechanism that allows acupressure bands to relive nausea at sea can also help with nausea related to pregnancy? Surely, I’m not the only one that has experienced nausea before they were ready to spill the tea.
Enter, Blisslets.
Blisslets creator, Kate Aparicio, was battling morning sickness (AGAIN) with the same old frumpy bands, when she realized that there was no alternative that was comfortable, stylish, and inconspicuous. So she decided to take the plunge, and nine months later (talk about fitting!) Blisslets was born.
She has created some beautiful bands that will go with any outfit, on any occasion- even formal night!
They hold up well and I have taken them on over five sailings. I’ve also used them on land as an adjunctive treatment for anxiety. You do have to figure out exactly what size you need as fit is critical. Kate makes this easy by giving you a sizing guide with easy to follow instructions- I used a string to measure my wrist then held it up to the ruler to verify my measurements.
I’m clearly a fan- and if you’re considering taken some nausea remedies on your next sailing, or are looking for some solutions to nausea or anxiety on land, I highly recommend you check them out!
